Cagnes-sur-Mer

My family has a nice Christmas tradition, a really nice one; We celebrate Christmas on the French Riviera. Every year we go there with my beloved cousins, and stay for a week or two to get a well needed break from the Swedish winter. This is a fantastic way to spend Christmas with family in the best place in the world, and hopefully feel the sun on your pale face, and it is also the perfect occasion for me to see my lovely French friends.

It was a a couple of days after Christmas Eve when my friend Zebastian and I decided it was time to see each other, and make a little excursion together. Zebastian had spent Christmas in Marseille with some friends, but he came to pick me up, and by car we went to Cagnes-sur-Mer. For you who are not lucky enough to have a friend to come get you, I propose to take the train to Cagnes-sur-Mer. You take the train towards the direction Cannes, trains depart approximately once every 30 minutes. The ride takes about 10 – 15 minutes, and a one way ticket is 2,80 €.

It was one of those perfect winter days on the French Riviera (although winter on the Riviera is not really winter, at least not for a Swede!); almost no wind at all, and a pale sun up in the sky.
The temperature was around 15 degrees C. We took a stroll by the board walk, while doing the obligatory catching up of the most essential things that had been going on in our lives since we last saw each other. Then we went to a restaurant with outdoor seating in the sun. We sat down at one of the colorful tables, facing the beautiful view of the sea. I ordered a Coke light and Zebastian ordered a grenadine, and we continued our discussion for a couple of hours.

After this pleasant moment we decided to visit the Renoir museum. The museum is the house where the famous impressionist Pierre-Auguste Renoir had his last residence, situated among the olive groves in the area of Les Collettes. The house is preserved as it was when Renoir lived there, with original furniture and paintings. After enriching our cultural knowledge by visiting this impressive museum, Zebastian and I went our separate ways. He went back to his friends in Marseille, and I got back home just in time for a delicious dinner with my family.
