1886 : Wedding in White House


On June 2, 1886, U.S. President Grover Cleveland married Frances Folsom in the White House. She was only 21 and was the youngest First Lady in U.S. history. In 1888, Cleveland was defeated but was reelected in 1892. Their second daughter was the first child born in the White House.

1924 : Indian became Americans


On June 2, 1924, the Indian Citizenship Act was signed by President Coolidge. This document confered U.S. citizenship to Native Americans born in the territory of the United States.

1953 : Coronation of the Queen of England


On June 2, 1953, even she became queen after the death of her father on Feb. 6, 1952, Queen Elizabeth II was formally crowned Queen of the United Kingdom at a ceremony of great pomp dating from time immemorial. The ceremony was attended by hundreds of millions of people around the world on radio or watched for the first time on television.

1985 : English football clubs banned by UEFA


On June 2, 1985, following the disaster in the Heysel stadium in Brussels, due to the behavior of English hooligans, all English football clubs were banned for 5 years from all competition at a European level.

Día Nacional del Perro
On 2 June is the National Day of the Dog in Argentina in honor of Chonino, German shepherd and police dog who was killed by criminals on April 2nd, 1983, when he was protecting his master. A statue was erected in honor of Chonino and a street in Buenos Aires was named after him.
