1899 : Beginning of the siege of Ladysmith


On November 2, 1899, during the second Boer War in South Africa, in the province of Natal, began the siege of Ladysmith, where British forces had regrouped. The siege by Boer forces lasted 118 days during which 3,000 British soldiers were killed.

1930 : Haile Selassie becomes Emperor of Ethiopia


On November 2, 1930, Haile Selassie, already regent of the country since 1916, became Emperor of Ethiopia. He remained Emperor until 1974, except for a period of exile during the Italian occupation between 1936 and 1941. Haile Selassie also participated in the reconquest of the country with the British forces and Ethiopian patriots.

1966 : Enactment of the Cuban Adjustment Act in the U.S.


On November 2, 1966, the Cuban Adjustment Act is enacted in the United States. This law allows any Cuban citizen or native who had arrived after 1 January 1959 on U.S. soil and had residing there for 2 years (one year since 1976) to become a permanent resident. 123,000 Cuban refugees were concerned. Outside the legal immigration from Cuba, much more restrictive, the law encourages Cubans to enter the U.S. illegally and gives shelter to people who have engaged in violent acts against Cuba, including against civilians for purely criminal.

1982 : Explosion in a tunnel in Afghanistan


On November 2, 1982, a Soviet military vehicle hit a tanker truck in the middle of the Salang tunnel in Afghanistan and triggered a huge explosion. The fire spread rapidly throughout the tunnel preventing any escape. 3000 people, mostly Soviet soldiers who were in a convoy, were killed.

2004 : George W Bush re-elected President of the United States


On November 2, 2004, George W Bush was reelected to the presidency of the United States, this time with more votes than his Democrat opponent, with 50.7% of the votes against 48.3% for John Kerry.

To scare the moles off our garden in a natural way, we can planted incarvillée rose, perennial plant that blooms from May to July and whose roots are supposed to scare those annoying animals off or fritillaire impériale which emits a strong odor which inconvenients these small animals.
