On August 5, 1949, an earthquake of magnitude 6.7 hit the region of Ambato, Ecuador. 6000 people were killed and 20,000 injured. 50 cities were destroyed in the area. Aggravate by a multitude of landslides in this mountainous area, the disaster left 100,000 people homeless.
