On April 8, 1904 in New York after the installation of the New York Times on the Long Acre Square area, the newspaper's owner persuaded the mayor to rename the place Times Square.

1953 : Mau Mau


On April 8, 1953, Jomo Kenyatta, President of the movement Kenya African Union was sentenced to seven years hard labor by the colonial British for his involvement in the organization of the rebel Mau Mau movement.
Jomo Kenyatta became Prime Minister in 1963 and President of Kenya in 1964. He is considered as the founding father of the country.
