1934 : Donald Duck On June 6, 1934, the character of Donald Duck appears for the first time in a short cartoon from Walt Disney, the Wise Little Hen.
1954 : Joseph McCarthy knocked Senator McCarthy originated an anti-Communist hysteria in the U.S. in the late '40s and early '50s. As he became increasingly aggressive and uncontrollable, lying and destroying careers, in 1954, he began investigating the Army which he said was infiltrated by communists. The lawyer representing the Army, Joseph N. Welch, destroyed all the charges one by one which made the Senator berserk. On June 9, 1954, when McCarthy went after a young associate in the firm of Welch, Welch responded quietly, questioning about the cruelty and lack of decency of Senator. The lawyer was applauded by the whole room and it was the beginning of the end for McCarthy who died as an alcoholic three years later.

1972 : A dam collapses in South Dakota On June 9, 1972, heavy rainfall led to the collapse of a dam near Rapid City, South Dakota. A wave swept into the floodplain near the city. As this area, which should not be built, had been built, 238 people were killed and many houses destroyed.
