1906 : Mining disaster in Courrières On March 10, 1906 a gas explosion and a dust explosion destroyed part of a mine owned by Compagnie des Mines Courrières. More than 1100 people were killed. 1977 : Uranus On March 10, 1977, astronomers James L. Elliot, Edward W. Dunham, and Douglas J. Mink discovered rings around Uranus. 13 rings have been discovered to date.
1997 : Buffy On March 10, 1997, the first episode of the TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer created by Joss Whedon is broadcasted on The WB. The series was a worldwide success and had a huge cultural impact.
