1978 : A truck explodes in a campsite


On July 11, 1978, in San Carlos de la Rapita in Spain, a truck carrying propylene gas hit a cement wall, fell into the campsite below and exploded. 215 people, mostly German and French tourists, were killed and many others were seriously burned.

1979 : Skylab re-enters the Earth's atmosphere


On July 11, 1979, because of lack of means to continue the mission, the first U.S. space station Skylab deorbited and disintegrated on re-entering Earth's atmosphere. Many debris were spread over Australia and the Indian Ocean.

1995 : Beginning of the Srebrenica Massacre


On July 11, 1995, the Srebrenica massacre began in Bosnia and lasted until July 22nd. During this massacre, 8000 Bosnians were murdered by General Ratko Mladic's Serb troops.
Ratko Mladic was arrested on May 26, 2011 to be prosecuted by the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia in The Hague for genocide and crimes against humanity.

2006 : Terrorist attack in Mumbai


On July 11, 2006, seven simultaneous attacks were perpetrated in commuter trains around 18:30 in Mumbai, India by the Students Islamic Movement of India and the Pakistani Islamic terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba. Over 200 people were killed and over 700 injured.

2010 : Spain wins the World Cup Football


On July 11, 2010, Spain defeated the Netherlands 1-0 in the final of the FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
