On July 13, 1793, one of the leaders of the French Revolution, Jean Paul Marat, was murdered in his bath by royalist sympathizer Charlotte Corday.

1960 : Kennedy gets the Democratic nomination


On July 13, 1960, John F. Kennedy beat Lyndon B. Johnson in California in the race for the Democratic nomination and became the candidate of his party for the November presidential election.

1977 : Blackout in New York


From 13 to 14 July 1977, an electrical blackout occured in New York. During the breakdown, riots broke out and hundreds of shops were attacked.

1985 : Live Aid concert


On July 13, 1985, in the presence of Prince and Princess of Wales the Live Aid concert opened at Wembley Stadium in London. The Live Aid is a giant 16-hour concert held in cities around the world initiated by the Irish singer Bob Geldof in order to raise funds against famine in Ethiopia. $125 million were collected.
