1978 : Operation Litani

On 14 March 1978, three days after a murderous attack by members of the PLO in an Israeli bus, Israeli troops launched Operation Litani and entered southern Lebanon to push the Palestinian forces therein away from the border.

1995 : First American in a Russian orbital flight

On March 14, 1995, U.S. astronaut Norman Thagard took off with two Russian cosmonauts Vladimir Dezhurov and Gennady Strekalov, in the spacecraft Soyuz TM-21 to the Mir space station.

2004 : General elections in Spain

On March 14, 2004, three days after the Madrid bombings, the PSOE, Spanish Socialist Workers Party, won the general elections in Spain and José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero became President of the Government.

2008 : Riots in Tibet

On March 14, 2008, the demonstrations of March 10 to commemorate the Tibetan People's Uprising of 1959 degenerated into violent riots against non-Tibetan population. Several people were victims of this violence and shops were burned. Demonstrations also took place in the neighboring Chinese provinces.
