1903 : Flooding in Oregon


On June 14, 1903, torrential rains fall on the Blue Mountains and cause flash flooding until the town of Heppner, Oregon. 324 people were killed and a third of the city was destroyed. Heppner is built in a floodplain, as 10%% of U.S. cities.
Today, dams, floodways and levees were built for flood protection of these areas but they are neither always sufficient nor always well maintained.

1940 : Germans enter Paris

1985 : Signing of the Schengen Convention
