24 bushfires killed 75 people in South Australia. Fires were caused by a very hot and very dry climate and affected populated areas.

2005 : Kyoto accord comes into force


On February 16, 2005, the Kyoto accord, signed seven years ago and ratified by 141 countries, comes into force. Through this agreement, states undertake to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 5.2% before 2012. The only small problem is that the biggest polluters of the planet have not signed the treaty.
