On September 22, 1914, the German submarine U-9 sank three British cruisers in one hour. 1,400 mariners were killed. Paradoxically, by sinking American ships to prevent the supply of the Allies the Germans will push the Americans, until now neutral, to declare war and this support will increase significantly.
