1914 : A German submarine sinks three British ships in 1 hour


On September 22, 1914, the German submarine U-9 sank three British cruisers in one hour. 1,400 mariners were killed. The English who had not believed in the effectiveness of submarines, quickly changed their minds. Paradoxically, by sinking American ships to prevent the supply of the Allies the Germans will push the Americans, until now neutral, to declare war and this support will increase significantly.

1975 : Second assassination attempt on President Gerald Ford


On September 22, 1975, two weeks after a first assassination attempt in Sacramento, California, President Gerald Ford escaped a gunshot from a former FBI informant in San Francisco, thanks to a bystander, Oliver Sipple , a former Marine and Vietnam veteran. 1980 : Iraq invaded Iran

1993 : A train derailed in a swamp in Alabama


On September 22, 1993, very early in the morning, a towboat which sailed on the Mobile River in Alabama, with no navigation system and which was driven by an employee who did not know how to use the radar, drove into a bridge rail, low because its purpose was only to make the trains pass through the swamps. The rails were twisted and when a train arrived a few minutes later, it derailed and three locomotives and the first four cars ended up in water. 47 people were killed.
