1984 : Press Conference of Robert Gallo on AIDS


On 23 April 1984, the American professor Robert Gallo announced the discovery of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) virus, which destroys the human immune system, claiming the discovery of the team of Professor Luc Montagnier of the Pasteur Institute. Professor Montagnier had asked a U.S. team to help him growing the virus. The dispute between Gallo and Montagnier ended in 1987 by an agreement. However, in 2008, the Nobel Prize in Medicine was awarded to Professors Montagnier and Francoise Barre-Sinoussi, from the Institut Pasteu,r for their discovery.
