1921 : A veteran of the civil war coughes up a bullet


On March 24, 1921, a Confederate veteran of the Civil War, wounded in the eye in 1863 by a bullet fired by the Union soldier Peter Knapp, during the siege of Vicksburg, coughed the bullet up after 58 years. The two men, gathered by this cough, became friends.
