1876 : Battle of Little Big Horn

On June 25, 1876, 3000 Sioux and Cheyenne warriors led by Crazy Horse and Sitting Bull defeated American troops led by Colonel Custer at Little Big Horn in Montana. The U.S. government was confining Indian tribes to reservations however when it broke treaties with the tribes, these ones decided to fight back.
In Little Big Horn, all the US soldiers were killed and among them, Custer's two brothers and his brother in law.

1942 : Eisenhower became commander of US troops in Europe

On June 25, 1942, General Dwight D. Eisenhower assumed commander of U.S. forces in Europe. He became the supreme commander of the Allies in Europe in 1943 and later became the 34th President of the United States.

1950 : Start of Korean War

On June 25, 1950, North Korea attacked South Korea. The war lasted until 1953. The United States were involved with South Korea while China helped North Korea.

1998 : The Berber singer Lounes Matoub is murdered

On June 25, 1998, the Kabyle singer Lounes Matoub is murdered in the mountains of Algeria. Thousands of people give vent to their anger. An investigation has been requested but it is unlikely that the Algerian State seeks the truth in this matter.

2009 : Death of the King of Pop

On June 25, 2009, the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, died of a bad drug combination. He was 50 years old. He had begun his career at age 5 with his four brothers. The Jackson Five were managed by their father. Michael had then started a solo career and knew an unprecedented international fame.
