1789 : Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen adopted On August 26, 1789, the National Assembly adopts the latest articles of the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen of 1789. This statement is still in effect today and is part of the 1958 Constitution.
1957 : Intercontinental ballistic missile On August 26, 1957, the Soviet Union announced that it successfully tested its first intercontinental ballistic missile. The Soviet Union could then reach anywhere in the world with its missiles. A few months later, the Soviet Union launched its first Sputnik into space. At the same time, the United States, realizing they had dropped behind, reacted and gained the upper hand in the 60s.
2007 : Stat of Emergency in Greece On August 26, 2007, Greece declared state of emergency as more than 200 forest fires raged across the country. Most fires were the cause of arson and spread rapidly because of high temperatures and drought. 84 people died because of fires in Greece in summer 2007.
2008 : Nomination of Barack Obama as presidential candidate For Democrats August 26, 2008, during the Democratic National Convention held in Denver, Barack Obama was officially nominated presidential candidate For Democrats.
