1913 : The Rite of Spring caused a riot On 29 May 1913, the ballet by Russian composer Igor Stravinsky, The Rite of Spring, caused a riot at its premiere in Paris by the Ballets Russes of Serge Diaghelev. The Parisians, usually open to novelty, were not ready for the very avant-garde sounds and choreography of the ballet. The Theatre des Champs-Elysees took the appearance of a barnyard worthy of the greatest comedy films. The ballet is today one of the great Dance classics.
1914 : Ships crash in Canada On 29 May 1914, a day of great fog, the Norwegian ship the Storstad hit the Empress of Ireland on the St. Lawrence River in Canada. Instead of stopping according to the proceedings in case of very dense fog, the Storstad just slowed down and the crash was very violent.
