1845 : Texas becomes the 28th U.S. State The United States has more than one state: Texas, which becomes the 28th.
1920 : Foundation of the French Communist Party On December 29, 1920, much of the SFIO (French Section of the Workers' International) activists who were having a meeting in Tours decided to join the Communist International: the French Communist Party was created.
1939 : Radio-Luxembourg creation On December 29, 1939, Radio Luxembourg made its first show. Between 1950 and 1960, it was the only radio to broadcast rock'n'roll in Europe and to present some of its programs in English.
1940 : Germans attack London On December 29, 1940, incendiary bombs were dropped on London by German aircraft: it was one of the most destructive raids of the Blitz on the british capital. More than 1,500 fires had to be be controlled and many buildings were destroyed. Thanks to the incredible work of firefighters and volunteers, great monuments such as St Paul's Cathedral could be saved.
1987 : Yuri Romanenko returns from space after more than 320 days n December 29, 1987, Yuri Romanenko, 43, landed in Kazakhastan, after 326 days, 11 hours and 40 minutes spent in space. Outcome of the mission, he broke the absolute record and grew up 10 cm losing only 1,6 kg.
1989 : No smoking on Canadians planes On December 29, 1989, Canada banned smoking on board its aircraft. It was the first country in the world to ban it.
