On April 21, 1836, U.S. troops Sam Houston defeated the Mexican troops of General Santa Anna, opening the door to Texas independence.
American Texans rebelled against the abolition of slavery then against the U.S. Immigration prohibition and finally against centralization and the increasing authoritarianism of the Mexican government.
