Discovering the treasures of Sainte-Agnès
Put your trainers (and glasses) on, for a discovery tour of the hidden gems of Sainte-Agnès via a fascinating treasure hunt! Throughout the whole of the summer, Sainte Agnès invites us to join a great treasure hunt to learn more about the town and its history.
To start off, you have to head to the Tourism Office to collect a small booklet which serves as a guide throughout the adventure. Then, follow the 15 signposts dotted along the lanes of Sainte Agnès and use the clues given to solve the 15 riddles. Bit by bit, the clues will come together to reveal the treasure of Sainte Agnès!
The Maginot Line Fort
Once you have finished the treasure hunt, stick around - there are still plenty of other treasures to discover, such as the Maginot Line Fort. Indeed, Sainte Agnès is strategically located, offering incredible views over the Bay of Menton, which is why a fort was built there, on the Maginot Line, at the end of the 1930s.
From the outside it looks like an ordinary bunker, but once inside you will discover that it has over 2000m² of tunnels and rooms to visit. Scenography and reconstructions help you imagine what it must have been like for soldiers living in this underground city.
Sainte-Agnès Fortified Castle
A different era, different décor. The medieval castle of Sainte-Agnes is another lovely and interesting place to visit. You have an approximately 15 minute uphill walk to get there. Once on site, you can visit the ruins of the 12th century fortified castle and learn about its history thanks to explanatory plaques that guide you throughout.
One of the castle’s most interesting spaces is without doubt the medieval gardens. Hidden behind the castle walls, it is grown using medieval methods. It includes a cottage garden, and a corner for aromatic plants and flowers. It is a unique and instructive visit, also offering fabulous views of the seafront.
