1978 : Jimmy Carter put the neutron bomb on hold


On April 7, 1978, U.S. President, Jimmy Carter, put the production of neutron bombs on hold. The neutron bomb is a nuclear fission-fusion weapon, which deploys a maximum of radiation energy and minimize the explosion. It's a bomb programmed to kill as many people as possible,with a minimum of damage on property.

2001 : Mars Odyssey launched


On April 7, 2001, the Mars Odyssey spacecraft was launched from the Cape Canaveral base in Florida to Mars in order to investigate the presence of water on Mars, and to study volcanic activity and detect current or past presence of life. Mars Odyssey reached Mars orbit on October 24, 2001.

2010 : 2010 Kyrgyz Revolution began


On April 7, 2010, in the capital Bishkek, thousands of demonstrators, protesting against rising of public services prices, faced the Kyrgyz security forces and took control of several administrative buildings including the presidential palace. President Kurmanbek Bakiyev resigned several days later and took refuge in Belarus.

2011 : New earthquake in Japan


On 7 April 2011, nearly a month after the 11 March earthquake, an earthquake of magnitude 7.4 struck northeastern Japan, damaging the outside power lines, used by the Onagawa nuclear plant. Leakage of water and some other damage were also observed at the Onagawa plant.

World Health Day
April 7 is World Health Day under the auspices of the World Health Organization (WHO). The theme for 2011 is the fight against antimicrobial resistance. A campaign was launched to preserve the gains achieved by medecine in the future. As a result of the spread of antimicrobial resistance, effectiveness of many drugs is threatened.
