It happened one 16 October

1934 : Beginning of the Long March in China

On October 16, 1934, during the civil war in China between the Nationalists and the Communists, as Chiang Kai-shek and his 700,000 men encircled the Soviet Republic of China in the province of Kiangsi, nearly 100,000 men were able to pass the blockade in its weakest points and escaped without being seen. The retreat lasted 368 days on 9600 km to the north west. Few soldiers arrived at their destination but the Long March gave back his leading position among the communists to Mao Zedong.

1946 : Execution of Nazi war criminals sentenced at Nuremberg

On October 16, 1946, 10 high-ranking Nazi officials were executed by hanging. They had been condemned by the Nuremberg tribunal for crimes against humanity, crimes against peace and war crimes.

1991 : Massacre in a restaurant in Texas

On October 16, 1991, a man drove his truck through the window of a cafeteria in Kileen, Texas. He took out a gun and then coolly killed 23 people and injured 20 others before committing suicide.

1996 : 84 people killed during a football match

On October 16, 1996, a stampede occured during the qualifying match for World Cup football between Guatemala and Costa Rica in Guatemala City. While thousands of people were trying to enter the already crowded stage, people began to choke and fight, a panic led to the disaster and 84 football fans were killed.
