1939 : Earthquake in Chile

On 24 January 1939, an earthquake of magnitude 8.8 on the Richter scale devastated the city of Chillan and the surrounding area in Chile. 30,000 people were killed.

1966 : Crash on Mont Blanc

On 24 January 1966, an Air India Boeing 707 crashed on Mont Blanc killing its 117 passengers.

1972 : Shoichi Yokoi surrendered

On January 24, 1972, Guam, farmers discovered a Japanese sergeant Shoichi Yokoi, hiding in the jungle for 28 years and awaiting orders from the Japanese army.

2011 : Attack in Moscow airport

On January 24, 2011, there was a terrorist suicidal attack in Domodedovo International Airport in Moscow. The author was from Ingushetia and was part of an Islamic terrorist organization from the North Caucasus. 37 people were killed and 173 injured.
