1865 : Assassination of Abraham Lincoln On 14 April 1865, President Lincoln was mortally wounded by a gunshot fired by actor John Wilkes Booth in a theater in Washington DC. He died the next day.
1912 : The RMS Titanic hits an iceberg On 14 April 1912, at 23:40, on its first voyage across the Atlantic, the Titanic hit an iceberg and sank hours later. Over 1500 people were killed.
1935 : Black Sunday storm On 14 April 1935, a series of dust storms transformed the day into night in the American Midwest.
