1943 : Warsaw Ghetto Uprising


On April 19, 1943, the SS auxiliary forces entered the ghetto in Warsaw in order to quell the rebellion, began in January, against deportations to concentration camps. The rebels responded with gunfire and Molotov cocktails, forcing the German troops to withdraw. The command of the attack was transferred to Jürgen Stroop who prepared a much better organized assault and crushes the uprising on April 29.

1993 : End the siege of Waco


On April 19, 1993, after 50 days of siege against the Branch Davidian sect in Waco, Texas, the FBI gave the final assault that ended with the death of 81 people. The siege had begun on February 28 when four ATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms) agents had been killed during an attempt to stop the cult leader David Koresh.

1994 : Sentencing of Paul Touvier for crimes against humanity


On April 19, 1994, the Assize Court of Yvelines condemned the former leader of the Lyon militia, Paul Touvier, to life imprisonment for crimes against humanity.

1995 : Truck bomb attack in Oklahoma City


On April 19, 1995, a truck filled with explosives destroyed the federal building Alfred P. Murrah in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, killing 168 people including 19 children under the age of 6. The authors of the bombing, Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols were anti-government survivalists supporting militia and gave as reason for their act, the FBI action during the Waco siege in 1993.
