DESCRIPTION
Created in the 1970s, this recently established Alpes d’Azur resort has acquired a reputation which may well be the envy of many another winter sports resort. It is true that its location is ideal: situated in the heart of the Southern Alps, on the Mercantour Massif 90 kilometres from Nice, it provides an area for skiing of 120 kilometres of pistes which extend from 1,800 to 2,610 metres’ altitude. It ensures the pleasant combination of snow and sun, and offers all snow and board sports. The skiable area of 120 kilometres stretches over the Domaine du Levant, the Domaine du Pelevos, and the Domaine du Saint-Sauveur (or du Merlier).
SPORTS
Isola 2000 ski resort offers various activities. In addition to traditional skiing, sporty people can go hiking (accompanied by a guide) on foot or on a snowmobile, on night-time walks with snowshoes, or for drives in a carriage. A natural skating rink makes it possible for skaters to practise. The resort also has a snowpark, an aquavalley with tropical lagoon, and for the daring, you can make your maiden flight by helicopter. And for enthusiasts of
golf, which is a very sought-after sport in the region, the town has a
mini-golf course.
In the summer of 2009, the resort hosted the
Trial World Championship (motorbikes).
PARKS
The
The Parc National du Mercantour (Mercantour National Park), is right nearby. It is an outstanding conservation site. Signposted paths enable you to discover the flora and fauna of the region. It is not unusual for a walker to catch sight of chamois, ibex, deer and even marmots...
